Colonie

The Town of Colonie has so much to offer, it's hard to sum up in just a few paragraphs. A town of around 80,000 people, it is the Capital Region's most populous suburb. It claims two of the Capital Region's best school districts (North Colonie and South Colonie), one of its largest malls and a variety of big-box centers. It also boasts parks, the Albany International Airport, access to the Mohawk River and a popular rail-trail that connects all the way to Buffalo.

Did we mention that it's also quite affordable?

There's such a variety of homes here, from simple starters to the dazzling mansions of Loudonville, that you'll never run out of properties to look at. Tasteful suburban tract housing? Check. Quiet country homes set on the riverside? Check. Sweeping mansions or Victorian dwellings on large parcels of wooded land? That too. There are also a multitude of apartment complexes at a variety of price-points, and a scattering of high-end, contemporary houses, including some built right on the side of a golf course.

Colonie is also a town that takes managing its growth seriously. The Planning and Building departments are big enough to almost require their own office building, and the town recently banned new construction for a year to allow officials to plan for its future. So when you arrive and you like what you see, know that leaders plan to keep it that way.

Description: Suburban, small town, rural. Mature, newer and new housing stock.
